Foster Care That Meets Each Dog Where They Are

Some rescue dogs cannot recover in crowded shelters or shared spaces. Dogs undergoing medical treatment, recovering from illness, healing after surgery, or needing temporary isolation require a calm, clean, and safe place where they can rest, receive care, and be closely monitored.

Our Special Care Foster Program connects these dogs with responsible foster homes that can provide the quiet, structure, and attention they need during one of the most vulnerable stages of their recovery.

Why This Program Matters

Many rescue partners and independent rescuers in Baja California Sur care for dogs with medical conditions such as TVT, skin infections, post-surgery recovery, injuries, or other treatments that require isolation and special attention.

In a shelter environment, these dogs may be more exposed to stress, infections, overcrowding, or limited one-on-one care. A special care foster home gives them a better chance to heal safely while freeing space and resources for other dogs in need.

This program is not only about temporary housing. It is about giving a sick or recovering dog the dignity, peace, and stability they need to get better.

What Special Care Fosters Provide

Special care fosters help dogs who need more than a regular foster placement. Depending on the case, this may include:

A quiet and separate space away from other animals when isolation is required.

Basic daily care such as feeding, cleaning, comfort, and observation.

Helping monitor changes in appetite, energy, behavior, wounds, medication response, or overall progress.

Following veterinary instructions provided by the rescue partner or medical team.

Providing patience, compassion, and a calm environment while the dog heals.

Fosters are never expected to replace veterinary care. Their role is to provide a safe home environment and follow the care plan established for each dog.
